Manisha Panchakam

[vc_row equal_height=”yes” content_placement=”top” css=”.vc_custom_1595268070264{background-color: #303030 !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Manisha Panchakam is a set of five verses by Adi Shankaracharya in response to the two questions asked by a Chandala, whom he encountered on his way out of a bathing ghat in Varanasi. Shankaracharya, though the proponent of Advaita Vedanta, forgot the immanence of Brahman, and due to his cultural training, wanted the Chandala to move away from his way. When confronted with these questions, Shankaracharya understood his mistake and prostrated before the Chandala and replied in five excellent stanzas called Manisha Panchakam, considered to be the essence of Advaita Vedanta. Talks on Manisha Panchakam by Swami Narasimhananda, the editor of Prabuddha Bharata, at Advaita Ashrama, Mayavati, District Champawat, Uttarakhand, India, a branch centre of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission.
