Psoriatic Arthritis Specialist

Psoriatic Arthritis

Joint pain with a history of psoriasis deserves more than reassurance.

Psoriatic arthritis can be subtle, and it can also be aggressive. A careful evaluation helps clarify what’s actually happening so the plan can match it.

Understanding the Condition

What Psoriatic Arthritis Is

Psoriatic arthritis is an inflammatory autoimmune condition that causes joint pain, swelling, and stiffness in people who have – or have a family history of – psoriasis. It’s a condition where the skin and joints are connected, even when the skin involvement is mild or hard to see.
It can affect peripheral joints, the spine, fingers and toes (sometimes producing the characteristic ‘sausage digit’ swelling), tendons, and the spots where tendons attach to bone. The pattern varies a lot from one person to the next.

How It May Feel

Common Symptoms
& Patient Experience

Patients with scleroderma may experience:

Joint pain and swelling, sometimes asymmetric

Morning stiffness in joints or the lower back

Swelling of an entire finger or toe (dactylitis)

Heel pain or pain where tendons attach to bone

Nail changes - pitting, ridging, or separation

Fatigue and overall reduced function

Why It Can Be Complex

Variability, Overlap
& Diagnostic Nuance

PsA can mimic other forms of arthritis and may appear before, alongside, or even without obvious skin psoriasis. There's no single definitive test - reaching clarity comes from a careful clinical picture combined with imaging and labs as needed, and an understanding of how PsA tends to behave.

Our Approach

Thoughtful, Not Rushed

Complex autoimmune disease deserves time, attention, and persistence. Here’s how that shows up in practice.

Careful Listening

Pattern matters in PsA - where it hurts, when, and how it relates to skin or nail changes. We take the time to map it.

Thorough Evaluation

A focused joint and entheseal exam, targeted labs, and imaging when it adds clarity to the picture.

Joint + Skin Thinking

PsA is one disease showing up in two places. We coordinate with dermatology when it makes sense and treat the whole condition.

Persistence in Complex Cases

Scleroderma evolves. We continue to refine the picture and the plan as new findings emerge.
